Corporate Git – Politics

previoushome – next

I’ve already mentioned pushing and pulling at management-baffling rates. But they won’t even notice first. They are too busy listening to marketing slogans of SCM tool-vendors. Ever heard of “connecting all source code changes to the initiating requirement, creating true traceability”?

And contrary to their “dynamic personality” image, our bosses have oversized cars, oversized houses, and even more oversized mortgages. Which means they are scared to death by any change. In spite of all this, they are mostly nice guys and we, the sock-and-sandal crew, endeavour to give satisfaction.

Actually, we’re the ones who feel the pain when using the centralized systems. We’re the ones dreaming every time how it would be ten times faster, easier and better controlled with Git. So, it’s up to us to introduce it. We will do it secretly first, as a kind of guerilla warfare. We’ll sort out all the details. We’ll present the brass with a working solution. Except, if we have oversized houses and mortgages as well. In which case we’ll keep babbling happily about our “enterprise-grade test-coverage across all requirements.”
